The Most Effective Means To Slim Down? Begin Walking.

By Elisabeth Bokal

If you've made up your mind to lose some weight, then you'll have most likely have created some sort of exercise plan. If you haven't exercised in a long time, or never, you may not know how to get started. It could even be a little frightening, commitment wise. But not to worry, there's a simple way to start exercising again: walking! You need to make walking a major component of your exercise plan.

You'll be surprised how easy it is to squeeze walking into your exercise regimen. Do you own a dog? Take it for a nice, long walk. Anything under 10 minutes doesn't count. 10 minutes may not feel like that long, but over the course of a month, or even a week, it adds up quickly. Interested to get a little more exercise? Take Fido for two walks daily. One thing you might consider is walking part of the way to work; you can make this as long as you want by merely stopping short of your workplace. This is something you can do irrespective of the distance of your home from your office. Of course, you'll need to walk back at the end of your work day, too, so that doubles the time you work out - whic is great! But then, if you catch the bus to work, you can just try to use a bus stop farther away than the one you ordinarily use. Adding more walking into your everyday agenda is a snap.

Walking is one of the least complicated and best things you can do to be healthy. The reason is that walking is one of the best aerobic workouts. This means it's not just great for your heart, but you'll get rid of extra pounds as well. You don't have to be anxious about overworking your joints or muscles like when running, since you can go as slowly as you need to. My brother is very thin (but he eats a lot of junk food) and I asked him how he does it. He tells me doesn't know, but he say that he does a lot of walking every day. At any rate it now is perfectly clear. Since, for many of us, nothing is simpler than walking, we don't have a good excuse not to.

You're more likely to stick with your walking program if you just make it part of your day-to-day routine. Then, with a proper, healthy diet, you'll also start slimming down as if by magic. You won't have to be anxious about motivation, because walking is not all that vigorous, and you'll be pleased at how much better you feel. The more you walk, the more you'll want to walk . . . and the more quickly you'll want to walk. If you believe you can do more - do it. Try walking at a faster pace or, if you're feeling very confident, you could begin jogging. From there, you can progress to more vigorous workouts.

There should be no excuse for you to not go out and walk even a short distance every day. You can always find time to walk around your work complex, or the block. If that's not possible, join a public gym and get on a treadmill. There are lots and lots of ways to skin this exercise cat.
